Community Based School

Children in Class

Due to high demand and lack of access to quality education among the Kibera children we have established a community based education where we offer quality education to both orphaned and vulnerable children from the Kibera slum. Our program admits kids from all ethnic and religious backgrounds. We are also working with our like minded organizations within and outside Kibera in making sure that all vulnerable and orphaned kids get basic and quality education.

Water and Sanitation

Distributing free water filters to the community

Thanks to Doug Ballinger and Help the Least of  These..

Kibera is heavily populated by fresh garbage, filth, dust, and other wastes. Open sewer routes, in addition to common use of flying toilets, also contributes to contamination of water and the entire environment of the slum. This has lead to many cases of sicknesses both water borne and air borne i.e Cholera, typhoid,Asthma among others.

As organization we have launched an environmental conservation campaign, we teach the local community of the advantages of having clean environment, we also involve the youths in doing clean ups and collection of garbage in the slum. We are also looking forward in establishing garbage collection and recycling point, whereby the recyclable garbage is recycled and offer income to the community.

Kibera Kids Bible Club & Bibles for Africa Project

Kibera kids bible club started in the year 2002 with an aim of reaching children community from the larger Kibera slums with the gospel of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus through bible based activities. Since then the club have seen many children grow in the word of God to serve in different ministries in the Church like praise and worship teams,Sunday school teachers among other ministries. The program has also witnessed parents come to Christ and being transformed through the ministry of their children.Rightnow the club has birthed a Bible for Africa children project that has a vision to put 1,000,000 bibles in the hands of African kids and youths who cannot afford to own their own bible. The program recent received the first batch of 180 bibles through the Zachary Project Bible for Africa Project. To support or donate to this project in the USA contact Shane Beck on +1 662-315-7815 or e-mail beckshane34@yahoo.com or you can just contact us on our contact page. Feeding Program

Kids from the community and School enjoying a meal

Considering that most of the kids we deal with are either orphan or vulnerable children our program also runs a feeding program that offers them two well balanced meals a day.To most of them this is the only meal they count on and they have to come back the following day for another meal. Thanks to Doug Ballinger and Help the Least of These that has sponsored 78 children out of the 200 children in our program. http://www.htlot.org/

Health and Nutrition

Dr. Jane of Global Care attending to a patient.

The combination of poor nutrition and lack of sanitation accounts for many illnesses. Not only are death by disease and conflict common inside this slum, but it is estimated that 1/5 of the 2.2 million Kenyans living with HIV live in Kibera Slums. That sums up to more than 15 % of the entire Kibera population.

We also counsel and give support to the already affected people. We also conduct medical camps in the slum for treatment of minor diseases which are common in the slum.

         Sports and Recreation

Sports is one of the best outreach tools used in the olden days and modern days. As organization we use sports to reach the larger part of Kibera community, our target group being youths, men and women. We use sports to promote peace among the Kibera inhabitant who are multi-ethnic and of different religion backgrounds. We also use sports as one way of giving youths something to do instead of idling and engaging in lawlessness activities like thuggery, prostitution, drugs among others.

We organize and hold sport camps, soccer tournament whereby we identify, award and promote the individuals with talents in sports. Our sport brings different categories from teenagers, youths, men and women both young and old.

   Upcoming Community Resource Center

We are having a plan of establishing a community resource center which will act as a gathering place for Kibera youths ,a Community Health Information Center, a computer lab which is fully connected to the internet where youths and children can access relevant information to their education and development, the center shall also offer counseling, and recreational services including video games, movies, and sports among other things.

Moreover, the center will provide the youths with a place and platform to relate to others of their age in a safe secure environment, discuss issues that concern their generation and their community and show case their talents. The aim here is capacity building for self-sufficiency among the youths. Also youths will be trained on income generating projects for their own self-sustainability
